Adopting a child is an exciting event in a parent’s life and Bennett Schechter has the ability to assist you in the adoption process.

Adoption

Whether you are working with an agency, adopting through foster care, adopting a family member or privately working with birth parents, having an attorney represent you will make the adoption easier so that you can focus on your new family.

Birth parent representation is also recommended in an adoption so that everyone involved is aware of what the rights of a birth parent are. If you are a birth parent planning on placing your child with an adoptive family, Bennett Schechter can represent you in the adoption process.

If you are adopting a child in the Western New York area, or adopting a child out of state, it is possible that the Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA) could be relevant to your case. One of our attorneys recently successfully represented a family in an adoption proceeding involving ICWA.  If your child or the child you are adopting is a child that is defined as an Indian Child under ICWA, it is essential that you have an attorney who can guide you through the adoption process.

While our office is located in Erie County, we can travel to any of the counties in New York. If you have any questions or would like to schedule a consultation please contact our office or email karcuri@bsawlaw.com.
